Repurposing Content: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Podcast

You’ve recorded an amazing episode, yet again. You’ve sent the podcast out into the world (or at least scheduled it for next week) and you’re wondering how to get every drop of blood out of this content. Welcome, you’re in the right place.

Repurposing content, also known as content recycling, is the practice of reusing some or all of an existing piece of content to expand its current reach. Repurposed content is typically transformed into a new format, for example, using this blog post to create multiple social media posts, videos and infographics rather than coming up with an entirely new subject.

When it comes to repurposing content and getting the most out of your podcast episodes, there is so much opportunity. The way I see it, you already have one amazing family sized content flavoured pizza, let's slice it up and share it.

Here are 5 ways you can repurpose your podcast episodes.

Youtube

In today’s lockdown world, podcast recordings usually happen over our favourite friend, Zoom. When you hit record, you’re instantly capturing the content that can double the size of your show’s digital footprint. Uploading your podcast to Youtube allows you to reach audiences that may not have access to podcast directories or simply prefer to consume video content.

Tapping into a larger audience base means more potential listeners and more opportunities to grow your show.

Facebook

Just like Youtube, posting your podcast on Facebook will allow you to take the experience further than just audio. You will be able to engage with your audience, ask them questions and use the answers to create new content in the future.

You can cut the video up and compile key takeaways, enticing the audience to listen to the full episode. You can use your favourite moments like funny quotes or inspirational moments in your episode for your community to watch.

If that’s not enough, you can also post behind the scenes videos of you preparing the episode or go live to chat about your upcoming recording.

Instagram

Podcasts are predominantly listened to via a mobile device, so using Instagram to share your episodes makes it easy to target podcast listeners.

There are a few ways to repurpose your podcast content on Instagram, including quote tiles, creating polls and questions, going live to talk about the episode, or a behind the scene look like we spoke about in the Facebook section.

If filming videos isn’t your thing, audiograms allow your audience to get a sneak preview of the episode without having to show your face. Apps like Headliner can help you do this easily, and for free.

Blog

If you want to dive deeper into the subjects you covered in your podcast, or include information that you may not have included, creating a blog post may be right for you.

If you’re not wanting to add too much to the podcast content, you can always use tools like Otter Ai to transcribe your episode and put it in a blog post.

Hot Tip: Always let your audience know how to access your podcast episode with a CTA (call to action) to your website or podcast directory of choice!

TikTok

Now, don’t get it twisted, TikTok isn’t just for dancing teenagers anymore. It’s available in 150 countries, and has over 1 billion users. The app has become a superhub for niche communities and could be the perfect place to find your brand’s target audience.

One of the easiest ways to market your podcast on TikTok is recording a video of yourself recapping what your episode is about, and a CTA of how to find you. This will give TikTok users a sneak peek into what your podcast is about, who you are, and drive traffic to the episode!

You do not need to do ALL of these, pick one, or a couple that will help your audience find your podcast and run with it.
